Setup & first run
The first time you open ProTally your account is set up automatically. This page explains what happens, and the three steps that get you accurate profit numbers.
Automatic account setup
There is no manual onboarding wizard. When you first open ProTally after installing, you may briefly see a "Setting up your account…" message — ProTally is provisioning your account behind the scenes using your secure Stripe identity. Once that finishes (usually a few seconds) you're taken straight into the app.
If you ever see "Loading…" it's simply checking your account status. If setup can't complete you'll see a clear error message — refresh the page, and if it persists, contact support.
Three steps to get the most out of ProTally
Out of the box ProTally can already read your products and any new payments. To unlock accurate, historical profit reporting, complete these three steps — all from Settings → ProTally.
1. Sync your historical data
By default ProTally starts tracking from the moment you install. To see trends and profit from before you installed, run a one-time sync of up to 12 months of historical Stripe payments.
Open the Data Sync tab and click Sync last 12 months. This runs in the background and the page updates automatically when it's done. See Data sync for details.
2. Configure your product costs
Profit is only as accurate as your costs. Open the Product Costs tab and record the cost of goods for each product's price. ProTally supports both simple per-unit costs and full tiered (graduated/volume) pricing, and keeps a history every time a cost changes.
See Configuring product costs to get started.
No cost configured? No problem.
If you haven't set a cost for a product yet, ProTally treats that cost as zero. Your revenue is still tracked accurately — you'll just see profit equal to revenue (minus Stripe fees) until you add a cost.
3. Start your subscription
ProTally runs on a subscription with a free trial. Open the Billing tab to start your trial or subscribe, and to manage your plan and invoices later. See Billing & subscription.
